Sunshine Village

After the Sunshine Bill, which called for solar and heat-pumps on all new builds, was rejected, Good Energy launched a low-budget response to reignite public and political interest.

During April 2025, Southsea Model Village became a scaled-down vision of a greener future. Working with Alan Budgen to build some tiny new builds, which were fitted with mini solar panels and heat pumps, while older ones were retrofitted to reflect what UK housing could look like with the right legislation.

Complete with custom villagers styled to match the handmade look of the others, featuring figures from both sides of the debate, including Ed Miliband, Nigel Farage and Stephen Morgan, who even popped down to meet his mini-me!

Since the project, Energy Secretary and honorary Sunshine Villager Ed Miliband has announced plans to change the law, requiring solar panels to be fitted on the vast majority of new-build homes in England.

Because a fairer, greener future deserves a platform—no matter the scale.
